Happy 2015 everyone!!! I could not close out 2014 without taking a look back at what a remarkable wedding year it truly has been. We have organised weddings for couples from all over the world. From vintage themed weddings, rustic country weddings to luxurious formal affairs the diversity of this year has kept us motivated and continually inspired.
What most denominated our wedding season this year……the rain. It has been a very unusual year in Tuscany with rainfall well above normal and many weddings in “Plan B” mode. There has definitely been more pre wedding tears but at the end of the day the show must go on……and it certainly did! Just a few of our beautiful weddings in the rain. Plan B is not so bad after all!
Beautiful Brides
All Brides are beautiful but we have had some exceptionally beautiful brides this year!
Beautiful Couples in Beautiful Places
I understand why people want to marry in Tuscany…..from the beauty of the coastline, the vineyards, rolling hills to the many quaint towns Tuscany provides a stunning backdrop! There is truly something for everyone here.
I have to say, I have so many beautiful photos the selection process was very difficult and I am still waiting for the photos of the last 2014 weddings. I would like to thank the following talented group of photographers: Andrea Corsi, Lelia Scarfiotti, Julian Kanz, Timelines, Edoardo Agresti and last but not least David Bastiononi. Each with their unique styles they have truly captured the emotions and beauty of each and every event.
Looking forward to another beautiful wedding season (hopefully with a little less rain).

Tuscania Event weddings at Castle Florence 5
Let the dream begin……
I was looking through some photos in the Tuscania Event’s archive and I came across an elopement we organised in Cortona a few years back. I was utterly taken away by the beauty of these timeless photos. Not only was this couple very much in love but photographers Andrea Corsi and Daniele Vertelli so magnificently captured the couple and the essence of times past. Using the quaint tuscan town of Cortona certainly proved to be an idyllic setting for this dream wedding. This is the story of Vikki and Nigel and their fabulous 50’s inspired elopement in Cortona. Vintage, classic and truly timeless…….
The rustic farmhouse in the countryside of Cortona
Getting Ready
Off to the Town Hall of Cortona for the Civil Ceremony
What can I say – beautiful couple, great photographers, a fabulous wedding planner 🙂 and the spectacular setting of Cortona equals a truly unforgettable and inspiring wedding.
For more information about a wedding in Cortona or a Civil elopement in any of the beautiful city halls in Tuscany please contact us at wed@tuscaniaevents.com
The wedding of Swedish couple Anna & Christian was one of my favorite Tuscania Event weddings for several reasons. Scandinavians generally request their guests dress black tie and they hold much importance to speeches throughout the event. The end result…..hot tuxedo clad guests (and of course tall beautiful women) and a wedding filled with great speeches and emotion. This is the story of their beautiful wedding in the hills of Florence.
Location
How can you go wrong with a brand new 5 star hotel in Florence? Tuscania Events organised the first wedding here at Villa Tolomei.
Getting Ready
The Villa’s rooms were breathtaking and a perfect backdrop for pictures! The bride was simply breathtaking in this understated yet elegant gown. In this case, less is certainly more!
Ceremony
Anna & Christian opted for a beautiful symbolic ceremony in the front garden officiated by their own Swedish pastor.
I can’t forget to include the best looking guests ever! Who doesn’t like a man in a tux?
Cocktail Hour
Dinner
The reception dinner was held in the back of the villa with views over the tuscan countryside and Florence.
What can I say? Beautiful location, beautiful couple and a well dressed crowd makes for an unforgettable Italian wedding. For more information on Villa Tolomei or to discover the right location for you, please contact us at wed@tuscaniaevents.com
Many thanks to Emma from Innocenti Studios for capturing these beautiful moments!
Let the dream begin…….
Ever dream about a castle wedding? How about a wedding in a 600 year old castle in Tuscany surrounded by vineyards and olive trees……need I say more?
Castello di Olivieto is a stunning castle located close to Florence as well as other quaint tuscan towns like Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra. It is a wine and olive producing estate that can be rented to hold an unforgettable tuscan wedding.
Castello di Olivieto is a great venue for small to large wedding as they have ample space both indoor and outdoor making the castle a great choice for a wedding any time of the year. The views from the castle tower are truly stunning and there is a beautifully manicured Italian garden that can be used for ceremonies and during the reception. Although there are no accommodations offered on site there is a lovely farmhouse stay with 10 apartments 3km from the castle along with other nearby hotels. Many of my brides look for venues that have accommodation on site but I think arriving at your wedding venue for the first time really gives your guests the ‘wow factor’.
Despite being a venue only location, brides still have the opportunity to utilise the castle’s rooms to prepare for their wedding. Not only does this room make you feel like a real princess but it provides a spectacular backdrop for photos.
One of the great advantages of this venue is the possibility to marry legally on site. Typically, civil ceremonies are held in the local town hall. The majority of locations in Tuscany do not allow civil ceremonies outside the town hall so a legal marriage in their Italian garden is a big plus. Tuscania Events can guide you through the document process and also translate the ceremony (this is one of my favorite parts of the job!).
Here is the civil ceremony set up of Elydia & Marco.
After the ceremony the italian garden is a perfect place to hold cocktail hour. Marco and Elydia chose this area to enjoy a few cocktails and appetisers before the wedding dinner.
After your guests have enjoyed the ample Italian style cocktail hour it’s time to move onto the reception dinner. The castle courtyard which can hold up to 200 people is a perfect location for dinner. In the event of inclement weather there are beautiful rooms indoors that can hold up to 180 guests so you avoid the additional costs of renting a marquee….yet another plus!
After dinner you move inside one of the castle’s rooms and party the night away…
To give you a better understanding of the venue, here are a few words from beautiful bride Elydia on her experience at Castello di Olivieto.
“I have to say that we looked long and hard for the perfect location… we wanted a place that was not too far from Florence but has a beautiful view of the Tuscan hills for people who are visiting and may not have been able to see the countryside, otherwise. We also wanted a place where we could do the ceremony and reception in the same place so no one had to worry about going anywhere (trying to find a church and then villa in Tuscany may be harder to us Americans who are more used to bigger, more detailed roads!) and this castle was perfect for those reasons and many more. It is the only castle upon a hillside, surrounded by fields of sunflowers… you can get any more fairy tale than that!
Great, friendly service, fantsastic food made fresh in the kitchens of the Castle and wine made from the Castle’s vineyards, amazing historic decor, beautiful gardens, tons of little spaces to enjoy yourself and soak up the Tuscan fantasy… and the fact that the castle is on top of a hill and was so secluded made it us all feel like we were the only ones on earth, enjoying this most special day.My uncle with his family at dinner said, “This is by far the most amazing wedding I have ever been to. Everything is perfect:- the food, the wine, the amotsphere. Nothing can get better than this moment.” …and then… at that very moment… the torches in each tower within the castle courtyard lit up! …. and it got even better… “I would like to thank Elydia & Marco for allowing me to share their experience and G & G Photography for their images. For more information on Castello di Olivieto pleases contact us at wed@tuscaniaevents.comLet the dream begin….
Convincing couples to marry in Florence, one of the most beautiful cities in the world is really not very difficult. Outside of the history, art and food there are numerous advantages to a Florence based wedding. You can marry any time of the year (even in the winter there are things to do and see) and the surrounding areas are filled with castles, villas, and farmhouses perfect for unforgettable wedding receptions. Florence and Pisa airport are also close and convenient. Unlike many other tuscan towns you have 5 options to choose from for celebrating a civil ceremony – La Sala Rossa or red room and La Sala dei 500 in the Palazzo Vecchio (Florence town hall), Bardini museum, Villa Vogel and lastly the beautiful seasonal option of Il Giardino delle Rose or The Rose Garden. Typically a civil ceremony is celebrated in the local town hall only so the fact that you have 5 options to choose from in Florence is certainly a plus!
Have I given you enough reasons to choose Florence??
I am dedicating this blog to the seasonal option – Il Giardino delle Rose or the Rose Garden which celebrated its first wedding ever in the summer of 2012. Thank you to former Florence Mayor Renzi and now Italian Prime minister for this possibility!
The Rose Garden
The Rose Garden is located right underneath Piazzale Michelangelo with wonderful views of the city and is filled with up to 350 different types of roses. There is also an adjacent Japanese garden (see picture below) that was given as a gift of peace from Kyoto, Japan. Throughout the garden there are 12 bronze statues by Belgian artist Jean Michel Folon. Although it is open all year round, the best time to visit is from May-September and it is also the only time frame you can marry civilly there.
This is the actual terrace dedicated to performing the civil ceremony followed by a picture of the terrace set up for civil marriages. The frame on the right that looks oddly like a suitcase is actually one of the bronze statues and it uniquely frames the backdrop. Here is a link of a video that clearly showcases the beauty of the ceremony space – The Rose Garden.
The Rose Garden has a rental fee paid directly to Florence’s town hall from 2250-3000 euros depending on day chosen (2014 pricing). Ceremonies can be held only on Tuesday mornings only twice a month from May- September. For more specific information please contact us at wed@tuscaniaevents.com

Lerici is a small and quaint coastal town located in southern Liguria and is one of my favourite seaside towns to visit during the summer months and a spectacular place for a beach wedding. Lerici is less known than the nearby towns of Cinque Terre but certainly worth a visit. It is located in the “Bay of Poets” an area named after the various poets that were inspired by the areas great beauty. Lerici is well connected to other coastal seaside towns by ferry to nearby Portovenere, Cinque Terre and Portofino. There are also smaller towns nearby like Tellaro – a true gem that certainly should not be missed. Besides being easily navigated by boat and ferry there are many hiking trails in the area that interconnects some of these towns. Another great advantage is its proximity to Pisa International airport.
Here is the main square in Lerici.
Beside having a rocky coastline there are also beach clubs available with wonderful sand beaches. Great place to rent a sunbed and enjoy the sun! There is also a walkway along the sea that interconnect Lerici to nearby San Terenzo.
One of the most spectacular places to hold a civil wedding is at Lerici castle. This castle was built in the 1100’s and used as a means to manage the seaside entrance into Lerici.
Currently the castle is used to host civil ceremonies on their panoramic terrace with sweeping views of the mediterranean. Here is an elopement for two – so romantic! You can also rent the castle’s terrace for holding a wedding reception.
Catholic Ceremonies
Capella di Sant Anastasia located inside Lerici castle.
In the town square there is the 13th century Oratorio S. Rocco available for catholic wedding ceremonies.
There are many locations in Lerici to hold a wedding reception but there is one luxury location that I just had to include…..this beach club has a private beach, restaurant and accommodation. Even if you can’t afford celebrating an intimate wedding celebration on site this beach club is pure paradise and worth a visit. Eco del mare is located between Lerici and Tellaro and is absolutely breathtaking!
Their private beach cove. Not a bad place to soak up the sun!
One of the bedrooms located on the beach.
Truly the small coastal town of Lerici is a perfect destination wedding location. From the crystal blue waters of the mediterranean, the fantastic seafood, the spectacular castle and churches to the proximity to other quaint seaside towns I’d say Lerici is the perfect location to celebrate a unique and unforgettable wedding celebration. And let the dream begin………
Lucca is probably less known than some of the other tuscan towns but it is certainly worth a visit and it is a great location to hold a destination wedding. Since it is located close to Pisa, Florence as well as the tuscan seaside it provides the opportunity to explore both cities and the coastal towns. And I can’t forget to mention its proximity to Pisa and Florence airport.
One of the most charming characteristics of Lucca are the renaissance era walls. These walls enclose the city and are still surprisingly intact. Along the wall is a lovely pedestrian promenade where you can take a casual stroll around the city, run, bike or even have a picnic.
You can plan an intimate celebration in the medieval town however the surrounding countryside in Lucca offers a spectacular backdrop to a wedding celebration. In fact there is a number of Monumental villas in the Lucca countryside that were built by wealthy merchants in the mid 16th century. Today you can rent these spectacular monumental villas for weddings. Here is just one example of a monumental villa in Lucca available for weddings (although there are many to choose from).
Front entrance to Villa Lucca 2
Rear view of Villa Lucca 2
The Limonaia or “Lemon tree” house available to hold wedding receptions as well. Can you picture your wedding here???
If you are looking for a more casual and rustic location there are many ‘agriturismi’ or farmhouse stays that allow you to stay on site and hold a wedding reception. Farmhouse Lucca 2 is a perfect example of a beautiful rustic setting where you can sleep, hold a civil ceremony and have a wedding reception all on site.
And yes, you can have a civil ceremony performed on site!!
Getting married in Lucca
Civil Ceremonies
One of the advantages of getting married in Lucca is that the town hall gives permission to selected locations the possibility to hold an outdoor civil ceremony on site. Generally civil ceremonies must be held in a town hall so the possibility to hold a civil ceremony outside the town hall is certainly a plus. For more information on specific locations that allow on site civil ceremonies please contact us at wed@tuscaniaevents.com
Catholic Ceremonies
Holding a catholic ceremony in Lucca can be tricky so it is a good idea to have Tuscania events assist you with this type of ceremony as the Archdiocese of Lucca generally does not permit foreign couples to marry in Lucca. However there is always a way to make an alternative plan. Here is an example of a church that is available for catholic weddings in the nearby area.
Chiesa di San Marco a Rigoli
In the end there are truly many advantages to choosing Lucca for your destination wedding in Italy. A wedding celebrated here will truly be unforgettable. For more information about a wedding in Lucca or for a personalised proposal please contact us at wed@tuscaniaevents.com
