Tuscania Events “Best of 2014”

2409Happy 2015 everyone!!! I could not close out 2014 without taking a look back at what a remarkable wedding year it truly has been. We have organised weddings for couples from all over the world. From vintage themed weddings, rustic country weddings to luxurious formal affairs the diversity of this year has kept us motivated and continually inspired.Foto 024

What most denominated our wedding season this year……the rain. It has been a very unusual year in Tuscany with rainfall well above normal and many weddings in “Plan B” mode. There has definitely been more pre wedding tears but at the end of the day the show must go on……and it certainly did!  Just a few of our beautiful weddings in the rain. Plan B is not so bad after all!

Beautiful Brides

All Brides are beautiful but we have had some exceptionally beautiful brides this year!

_D4A3765I have to say, I have so many beautiful photos the selection process was very difficult and I am still waiting for the photos of the last 2014 weddings. I would like to thank the following talented group of photographers: Andrea Corsi, Lelia Scarfiotti, Julian Kanz, Timelines, Edoardo Agresti and last but not least David Bastiononi. Each with their unique styles they have truly captured the emotions and beauty of each and every event.

Looking forward to another beautiful wedding season (hopefully with a little less rain).

Grace Kelley inspired wedding in Tuscany

Ok, so we are not in Monaco, the bride is not a famous American actress (not yet at least) and the groom is not a Prince but Tuscania Event’s bride Megan surely captured the look and elegance of Grace Kelley.  A stunning couple and wedding that had all the fine details and glamour of times past.Screen Shot 2014-10-27 at 09.38.27This is the story of Megan & Justin and their spectacular wedding in the hills of Lucca.

Fabulous 50’s Inspired Tuscan Elopement

Nigel and Vikki-103I was looking through some photos in the Tuscania Event’s archive and I came across an elopement we organised in Cortona a few years back. I was utterly taken away by the beauty of these timeless photos. Not only was this couple very much in love but photographers Andrea Corsi and Daniele Vertelli so magnificently captured the couple and the essence of times past. Using the quaint tuscan town of Cortona certainly proved to be an idyllic setting for this dream wedding. This is the story of Vikki and Nigel and their fabulous 50’s inspired elopement in Cortona. Vintage, classic and truly timeless…….

A Real Tuscan Wedding – Great Gatsby Style

Foto 069

What a way to kick off the 2014 wedding season than with a Great Gatsby themed wedding held in a 600 year old Florentine castle. Out of all the beautiful pictures of this event it was this picture above that truly captured the spirit of the evening and of the lovely couple, Stephanie & Devin. This is their story in pictures…..

 The Location

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Stephanie & Devin decided to organise their symbolic wedding ceremony outside on the terrace with sweeping views of both the countryside and the city of Florence. Just spectacular! Even it there was a little rain the sky cleared up just in time for the ceremony.

The Dinner Reception

In line with the 1920’s theme the bride chose a colour palette of gold. silver, and black. To achieve this vintage look she selected tobacco coloured linens, gold charger plates, large silver candelabras and gold chiaverini chairs. The addition of Baby’s breath flowers, candles and art deco printed menu cards in gold frames were the perfect finishing touches.

The Details

Whoever said ‘it’s all in the details’ could not have been more right. From the vintage beaded bouquet wrap to the vintage lace detailed umbrella, there was not one detail overlooked. And I can’t forget to mention the elegance created by the simple use of inexpensive flower baby’s breath!

Say “I do” in beautiful Florence!!

Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 15.28.28
Florence is one of the most beautiful cities in Italy if not the world. It is the capital of Tuscany, the birthplace of the renaissance and a truly special place to get married. The great thing about choosing Florence for a civil wedding ceremony is that you have not 1 but 5 different locations to choose from!
Here are all the possibilities. I will start with the options located in the town hall of Florence – the Palazzo Vecchio or “old palace” in the beautiful Piazza della Signoria.

Palazzo Vecchio
Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 15.40.48I will start with the most popular choice, “La Sala Rossa” or the red room. Can you guess why it’s named the red room???

La Sala Rossa

Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 10.56.16
History: The room was built during the enlargement of the palace during the renaissance period and took on its current appearance during the second half of the 19th century when it was the bedroom of Baron Bettino Ricasoli the prime minister of that time. There are biblical tapestries, red carpet and velvet giving the room quite a rich and unique elegance.
When: Mornings daily (including Saturday), Sundays (1 x per month)
Cost: from 2,500-3,000 euros for non residents (depending on day/time chosen)
Capacity: 40 people

A Gallery of my favorite Tuscania Event’s couple who have married in the Sala Rossa

Sala di Lorenzo

Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 10.57.01
History: This room was dedicated to Lorenzo the magnificent, a man with great intelligence, culture and political power during the renaissance period. The decoration of the hall dates back to the mid 16th century and celebrates the great life of the Medicic family. The room is enhanced by the beautiful paintings of Giorgio Vasari and Marco de Faenza.
When: twice a month (except August)
Cost: 3,000-3,500 euros for non residents
Capacity: 30 people

The third and probably most exceptional civil ceremony space in Palazzo Vecchio (made recently more visible by Dan Brown’s recent book Inferno) is La Sala dei 500 or the 500 room. This photo does absolutely no justice to the splendour of this room!

La Sala dei 500

Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 10.57.13

History: This room is the most historically significant room in the Palazzo Vecchio. The room was built in 1495 by Simone del Pollaiuolo. The grand hall was the seat of the 500 members of the Great Council of the Republic. Artistically important is the ceiling decorated with immense frescoes by Vasari and by 11 marble statues among which the famous “Genius of Victory by Michelangelo. I can’t forget to mention the hidden charms of the “Battle of Angiari” that is perhaps the rediscovered work by Leonardo da Vinci. I would say this is quite an exceptional place to marry!

When: twice a month (except August)

Cost: 5,000 euros (the most expensive option but the most notable for sure)

Capacity: 240 people

The above options – La Sala Rossa, Sala di Lorenzo and La Sala dei 500 are all located in Florence’s city hall – the Palazzo Vecchio. The remaining 2 options are located in other city locations.

Il Museo Bardino

The Bardini museum is located in the Oltrarno district of Florence (The Oltrarno is Tuscania Event’s headquarters and in my opinion one of the most authentic areas of the city). The museum is named after Stefano Bardini (1854-1922) an Italian antiquarian who decided to turn his collection into a museum and donated to the city of Florence.

La Sala della Carita’

Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 10.57.33History: Before Stefano Bardini made restorations to the palazzo it was once and church and convent. The La Sala della Carita’ or the hall of charity is named after an important statue in the museum (Carita’ by Tino Camaino). Recently, the Sala della Carita’ was given permission to perform civil ceremonies.

When: twice a month (except August)

Cost: 3,000-3,500 euros for non residents

Capacity: 180 people

Il Giardino dell Rose

The Rose Garden is also a recent addition to Florence’s ceremony options and the only outdoor possibility. The photo below does not give this spectacular spot justice….it is truly spectacular! I dedicated a blog just to this spot.

Screen Shot 2014-05-19 at 10.57.42History: This beautiful garden is located just below Piazzale Michelangelo and was built in 1865 as part of Florence’s restructuring when it was Italy’s capital. From this spot you can enjoy unparalleled views of the city while being surrounded by 1000 plant varieties and hundreds of roses. The garden is enhanced by the presence of 10 sculptures by artist Jean-Michel Folon and a beautiful Japanese garden.

When: May, June, September (twice per month)

Cost: From 3,500-4,000 euros

A Scandinavian Wedding in Florence

A&C_237The wedding of Swedish couple Anna & Christian was one of my favorite Tuscania Event weddings for several reasons. Scandinavians generally request their guests dress black tie and they hold much importance to speeches throughout the event. The end result…..hot tuxedo clad guests (and of course tall beautiful women) and a wedding filled with great speeches and emotion. This is the story of their beautiful wedding in the hills of Florence.

Location

How can you go wrong with a brand new 5 star hotel in Florence? Tuscania Events organised the first wedding here at Villa Tolomei.

Getting Ready

The Villa’s rooms were breathtaking and a perfect backdrop for pictures! The bride was simply breathtaking in this understated yet elegant gown. In this case, less is certainly more!

A Real Castle Wedding – Castello di Olivieto

Ever dream about a castle wedding? How about a wedding in a 600 year old castle in Tuscany surrounded by vineyards and olive trees……need I say more?_GOG9943Castello di Olivieto is a stunning castle located close to Florence as well as other quaint tuscan towns like Siena, San Gimignano and Volterra. It is a wine and olive producing estate that can be rented to hold an unforgettable tuscan wedding.

Screen Shot 2014-03-19 at 14.52.45Screen Shot 2014-03-19 at 15.52.10Castello di Olivieto is a great venue for small to large wedding as they have ample space both indoor and outdoor making the castle a great choice for a wedding any time of the year. The views from the castle tower are truly stunning and there is a beautifully manicured Italian garden that can be used for ceremonies and during the reception. Although there are no accommodations offered on site there is a lovely farmhouse stay with 10 apartments 3km from the castle along with other nearby hotels. Many of my brides look for venues that have accommodation on site but I think arriving at your wedding venue for the first time really gives your guests the ‘wow factor’.

Despite being a venue only location, brides still have the opportunity to utilise the castle’s rooms to prepare for their wedding. Not only does this room make you feel like a real princess but it provides a spectacular backdrop for photos.

Screen Shot 2014-03-23 at 22.17.57

One of the great advantages of this venue is the possibility to marry legally on site. Typically, civil ceremonies are held in the local town hall. The majority of locations in Tuscany do not allow civil ceremonies outside the town hall so a legal marriage in their Italian garden is a big plus. Tuscania Events can guide you through the document process and also translate the ceremony (this is one of my favorite parts of the job!).

_GOG9362Here is the civil ceremony set up of Elydia & Marco.

_GOG9515

_GOG9551After the ceremony the italian garden is a perfect place to hold cocktail hour. Marco and Elydia chose this area to enjoy a few cocktails and appetisers before the wedding dinner.

_GOG9697

_GOG9636After your guests have enjoyed the ample Italian style cocktail hour it’s time to move onto the reception dinner. The castle courtyard which can hold up to 200 people is a perfect location for dinner. In the event of inclement weather there are beautiful rooms indoors that can hold up to 180 guests so you avoid the additional costs of renting a marquee….yet another plus!

_GOG9858After dinner you move inside one of the castle’s rooms and party the night away…

Screen Shot 2014-03-23 at 11.24.46

To give you a better understanding of the venue, here are a few words from beautiful bride Elydia on her experience at Castello di Olivieto.

_GOG9772“I have to say that we looked long and hard for the perfect location… we wanted a     place that was not too far from Florence but has a beautiful view of the Tuscan hills for people who are visiting and may not have been able to see the countryside, otherwise.  We also wanted a place where we could do the ceremony and reception in the same place so no one had to worry about going anywhere (trying to find a church and then villa in Tuscany may be harder to us Americans who are more used to bigger, more detailed roads!) and this castle was perfect for those reasons and many more.  It is the only castle upon a hillside, surrounded by fields of sunflowers… you can get any more fairy tale than that!

Great, friendly service, fantsastic food made fresh in the kitchens of the Castle and wine made from the Castle’s vineyards, amazing historic decor, beautiful gardens, tons of little spaces to enjoy yourself and soak up the Tuscan fantasy… and the fact that the castle is on top of a hill and was so secluded made it us all feel like we were the only ones on earth, enjoying this most special day.

My uncle with his family at dinner said, “This is by far the most amazing wedding I have ever been to.  Everything is perfect:- the food, the wine, the amotsphere.  Nothing can get better than this moment.” …and then… at that very moment… the torches in each tower within the castle courtyard lit up!  …. and it got even better… “
_GOG0264
I would like to thank Elydia & Marco for allowing me to share their experience and G & G Photography for their images.

Civil Ceremony in Florence: The Rose Garden

Screen Shot 2014-03-11 at 12.02.52Convincing couples to marry in Florence, one of the most beautiful cities in the world is really not very difficult.  Outside of the history, art and food there are numerous advantages to a Florence based wedding. You can marry any time of the year (even in the winter there are things to do and see) and the surrounding areas are filled with castles, villas, and farmhouses perfect for unforgettable wedding receptions. Florence and Pisa airport are also close and convenient. Unlike many other tuscan towns you have 5 options to choose from for celebrating a civil ceremony –  La Sala Rossa or red room and La Sala dei 500 in the Palazzo Vecchio (Florence town hall), Bardini museum, Villa Vogel and lastly the beautiful seasonal option of Il Giardino delle Rose or The Rose Garden. Typically a civil ceremony is celebrated in the local town hall only so the fact that you have 5 options to choose from in Florence is certainly a plus!

Have I given you enough reasons to choose Florence??

I am dedicating this blog to the seasonal option – Il Giardino delle Rose or the Rose Garden which celebrated its first wedding ever in the summer of 2012. Thank you to former Florence Mayor Renzi and now Italian Prime minister for this possibility!

The Rose Garden

Screen Shot 2014-03-11 at 11.44.28

The Rose Garden is located right underneath Piazzale Michelangelo with wonderful views of the city and is filled with up to 350 different types of roses. There is also an adjacent Japanese garden (see picture below) that was given as a gift of peace from Kyoto, Japan.  Throughout the garden there are  12 bronze statues by Belgian artist Jean Michel Folon. Although it is open all year round, the best time to visit is from May-September and it is also the only time frame you can marry civilly there.

Screen Shot 2014-03-11 at 14.40.48

This is the actual terrace dedicated to performing the civil ceremony followed by a picture of the terrace set up for civil marriages. The frame on the right that looks oddly like a suitcase is actually one of the bronze statues and it uniquely frames the backdrop. Here is a link of a video that clearly showcases the beauty of the ceremony space – The Rose Garden.

Screen Shot 2014-03-11 at 14.41.00Screen Shot 2014-03-11 at 11.47.13

The Rose Garden has a rental fee paid directly to Florence’s town hall from 2250-3000 euros depending on day chosen (2014 pricing). Ceremonies can be held only on Tuesday mornings only twice a month from May- September. For more specific information please contact us at wed@tuscaniaevents.comScreen Shot 2014-03-11 at 14.39.42

Destination Wedding Italy: Lerici and the “Bay of Poets”

Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 16.11.26Lerici is a small and quaint coastal town located in southern Liguria and is one of my favourite seaside towns to visit during the summer months and a spectacular place for a beach wedding. Lerici is less known than the nearby towns of Cinque Terre but certainly worth a visit. It is located in the “Bay of Poets” an area named after the various poets that were inspired by the areas great beauty. Lerici is well connected to other coastal seaside towns by ferry to nearby Portovenere, Cinque Terre and Portofino. There are also smaller towns nearby like Tellaro – a true gem that certainly should not be missed. Besides being easily navigated by boat and ferry there are many hiking trails in the area that interconnects some of these towns. Another great advantage is its proximity to Pisa International airport.

Here is the main square in Lerici.Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 20.29.07

Beside having a rocky coastline there are also beach clubs available with wonderful sand beaches. Great place to rent a sunbed and enjoy the sun! There is also a walkway along the sea that interconnect Lerici to nearby San Terenzo.

One of the most spectacular places to hold a civil wedding is at Lerici castle. This castle was built in the 1100’s and used as a means to manage the seaside entrance into Lerici.

Currently the castle is used to host civil ceremonies on their panoramic terrace with sweeping views of the mediterranean. Here is an elopement for two – so romantic! You can also rent the castle’s terrace for holding a wedding reception.

There are many locations in Lerici to hold a wedding reception but there is one luxury location that I just had to include…..this beach club has a private beach, restaurant and accommodation. Even if you can’t afford celebrating an intimate wedding celebration on site this beach club is pure paradise and worth a visit. Eco del mare is located between Lerici and Tellaro and is absolutely breathtaking!Screen Shot 2014-03-05 at 20.57.51

Truly the small coastal town of Lerici is a perfect destination wedding location.
